Hard to keep the sodium in check.
I am staying in a hotel room until September. I have been since May 22nd. I have a small fridge, and a microwave. I go over on sodium every... single... day. Yeah, I have a penchant for olives and such and I kind of expect it on those days where I have a craving but not every single day. I had a Ramen phase one week that I knew very well was incredibly unhealthy. I'm talking about the regular days when I'm trying to get creative and find new ways to get fruits and vegetables into my diet while I'm ...

How do you handle "it"...
arlingtonbadger

Embarrassed... that's how I feel when someone say's "HOW much weight have you lost?"... I don't know why I feel this way. Maybe it's attention I didn't ask for. Maybe I was brought up to always look at what you did wrong vs what you did right. Maybe it's just a personal thing. I've had a few people come up to recently me and say that they didn't recognize me at work - these are people I've known for 10 years!

I was at a business training class with about 20 people from my company from all around the globe ...

YAY ME!!! YAY NM!!!
Just had a physical and I now need to bring my cholesterol down with better eating and exercise or my doc will put me on meds.

He actually wanted to put me on them last week and re-test after 6 weeks, but I didn't think they were all that bad---

LDL-135, HDL-47, total-200 and 100 on blood sugar.

That was one week ago, and I just weighed in and lost 5 pounds! Yes, I know the first few are water pounds, but it is a start in the right direction!

I am so glad to have a tool like NM that is free.

Probably one of my favorite quotes (Goethe, of course). I think I now have a new one...

I got on the scale this morning and then entered my new weight into NM. The BMI number went to 24.7, and the little statement to the left said "A Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 25.0 indicates that I am likely at a healthy weight for a person of my height."

Wow.

I've been obese for more years than I care to count. I've been overweight for more years than I care to remember. I haven't been at "a healthy weight for a person ...

Concerned About Increased Body Fat % While Still Losing WeightI am working with my doctor to getting back on track with a healthier me. I think it was April 28th that I went to have a full physical, and it was better than I thought...thanks to NM. He said that if I had not started to do what I am doing on NM and with exercising that I would be on medicines by now. In fact, some of the numbers were still slightly elevated but not like they were 6 months ago. I am doing better in leaps and bounds. However, I still have a long ways to go ...

Weighing Yourself During That Time of the Month
I know this has probably been answered 1000's of times already. If so, please respond with the link. I've searched but haven't been able to find the answer.

Is there any point to weighing yourself during that time of the month?? If NM tells you that it's time to get back on the scales, should you wait until "that time of the month" is over, knowing that this week an accurate reading likely isn't possible??

Please help...

When does your body metabolize fat (weight) that equates into what I see on the scale?
arlingtonbadger
arlingtonbadger
My general, rudimenatary undertanding of where body goes when you lose weight is through a series of complex metabolic processes, triglycerides (fats) are broken down into two different components — glycerol and fatty acids — which are absorbed into your liver, kidney and muscle. Here, these components are further broken down by chemical processes that ultimately produce energy for your body.

The heat generated through these activities is used to help maintain your body temperature. The waste products that result are water and carbon dioxide. You excrete water primarily in urine and sweat and carbon dioxide in air exhaled from ...

Bloodwork results - PCOS
Melissa71
Melissa71
Some of you might remember my constant frustration with no weight change in the past, being more or less green, alternating various exercise, etc etc. I finally got to see a doctor who prescribed some thorough bloodwork to be done. I said I was concerned about thyroid, insulin related issues, poly-cystic ovary, and too stable weight for the kind of food that I eat, so she did all sorts of tests. She said if it was not for watching my intake that that would have been the first thing she would have suggested. But with NM, no need for that ...

Which is harder: Weight loss or Maintenance?
MelissaEileen
MelissaEileen
It is often assumed that once you've met your weight loss goal, your journey to good health is over. Like we've all learned on NM, this is clearly not the case. This why we prefer to show our "before" and "now" photos, rather than "before" and "after". The "after" presumes that since you've reached a healthy weight, you can go on with life, and never have to worry about weight again. This couldn't be more wrong. This is why so many weight loss programs such as Jenny Craig and NutriSystem fail. Because, after the person has reached their goal and ...

I bet you're thinking...WHAT? Are you outrated? I AM. This was a segment on Good Morning American this morning. An MD came on to tell us this news.

I don't know about you, but this segment got me fired up this morning. What a load of BS. There are plenty of people on NM and I'm sure elsewhere that can testify to maintaining and even losing weight through diet (what and how much we eat) and moderate or no exercise.

Mike;

I occasionally get a message like:

My daily balance of 1035 calories should have resulted in a loss of approximately 4.1 pounds, but my actual recorded weight change differs significantly from that number.

It would be handy (and instructive) to include what it was. Perhaps if the message were:

My daily balance of 1035 calories over the last 14 days should have resulted in a loss of approximately 4.1 pounds, but my actual recorded weight change of 5.5 pounds is significantly higher than that number.

or

So, Since November I've been on a mission to lose 40 pounds by June 1st. I found NM not long after my quest began. In the beginning I just used it to watch my daily calorie count (I was losing 5 pounds a week just saying on calorie track). I was really worried this week because I was all red last weekend and had a couple of days where I was green but way under in calories. I spent the rest of this ...

So my mother and I are losing weight together. We're both doing it slowly but in a healthy way. She's lost 29 pounds and I've lost 30 since August. It's not anything huge but we're still going strong.

My mom told me that she found it odd that no one in our family commented on her weight loss. She's lost 29 and she looks amazing. I can see more changes in her than I can in myself (naturally). But I can see it kind of worried her a little bit even though I keep telling her that she look amazing. ...

Taking a break?
So, when I started to make all these lifestyle changes in August '08, my goal was to get down to at least 200 pounds in two years. I'm currently at 202ish. When I started seeing a trainer last fall, she asked me what my IDEAL weight would be, and I said 160 pounds, around what I weighed when I started high school. She suggested a happy medium of 180 pounds, and when I got there I could decide on the last 20 pounds.

What made her pick a goal above my ideal was the fact that I have been overweight for ...
