| February 9, 2010, 6:33 am Increase my protein intake?
MamaMina28 | Hi i have a question about protein. I heard that as you get older out of twenties you should increase the lean protein that you eat and do weight lifting as your muscle mass starts to decline. I am wondering does anyone know the appropriate ratio of protein, carbs, fat in proportion to the calories we are supposed to eat? Also what are some sources of lean protein that can be eaten at breakfast? (No milk products please.) Thanks! ... |

lilifx | Howdy, NMers, I have a question!
How can I get enough protein without going red in fat?
I've noticed a pattern emerging on my home page recently. I'm generally at 50% carbs, 30% fat, 20% protein.
According to my nutritionist, for insulin resistance, I'm supposed to be getting 50% carbs, 25% fat, 25% protein at pretty much every meal. (The difference here is that these are "set" and not forgiving ranges like the initial amounts are given when you create an account.) I'm still struggling with this one.
Now, here's what you may need to know about why this is tricky for me: ... |

Do we eat enough protein? Here is a test to see if you do.
Doctors have concluded that if you find the man in the coffee beans in 3 seconds, the right half of your brain is better developed than most people. If you find the man between 3 seconds and 1 minute, the right half of the brain is developed normally. If you find the man between 1 minute and 3 minutes, then the right half of your brain is functioning slowly and you need to eat more protein If you have not found the man after 3 minutes, the ... |

investmama | I'm mostly using the website to make sure my nutrition is good. I'm having SO MUCH trouble getting enough protein. Even though I'm out of the first trimester (14 weeks now) I'm still having some serious food aversions. I very rarely find any meat or other protein products appealing and vegetables usually make me gag. It seems like all i want to eat are carbs and fruit. sometimes i go a little cheese crazy, but then I'm too high in fat for the day and still don't have enough protein. it's driving me nuts. Any suggestions would be appreciated! ... |

Melissa71 | Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone can offer some advice?
Here is the situation: with the green day challenge, I started bringing my own lunch in order to control foods for lunch at work. This so far involves bringing some veggies and gluten based burgers which taste nice, have lots of protein but are quite high in cals. Another change I made was to switch from rye bread (bread is my staple food) to essene type sprouted bread which has fenomenally high calories even with all the goodies on top of that :( So the newest revalation is that:
1) I ... |

MAD_SAD_MOM | Some background:
I'm a lazy cook.
I typically eat raw fruits and veggies (no sauce or seasoning).
If I cook the veggies, they are typically microwave-steamed (again no sauce or seasoning).
Meat is simple baked/roasted/grilled with little, if any, seasoning.
I do thoroughly enjoy a flavorful meal (restaurant or if someone puts energy in the meal) but I don't do it myself. Especially when we have company as we do now....lots of eating out and leftovers (tonight's dinner was made up of a few bites of this and few bites of that with my best guesstimate to log).
I'm a poor meal planner so I ... |

Okay, I'll come clean...It's embarrassing, but I'll tell you...
The reason I'm late with today's post is because I watched a cheesy Lifetime movie last night. When it was over I was tired and went straight to bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow I realized that I had completely forgotten to post! Well the movie was bad...but this dish isn't (ooo, that was smooth). Nice flavors, good numbers, tasty warm and even cold right out of the frig as a snack. Add in the sugar snap peas and little carrots, and you've given yourself a serious boost towards a |

Since I am a Bariatric patient who has had weight loss surgery my nutrition goals
are a bit different then a lot of folks. I need to reset and lock my settings to
reflect the following:
Calories = 500 - 800 per day
Carbs = 40 GM per day
Protein = 70 GM per day
Fat = 30 GM per day
OUR ANSWER
I thought it would be interesting to show everybody the math behind the
this question. We'll start with some basic facts:
1 gram of carbohydrates = 4 calories
1 gram of protein = 4 calories
1 gram of fat = 9 calories
Now those numbers |
