ok. i appreciate what everyone has told me so far about needing to eat more calories during the day. and i know that. though sometimes it is hard to find the time to fit in a good meal during the stressful days. also, i have a problem. i can be the healthiest eater sometimes. other times, i get stuck in a HUGE rut, and it takes forever to get out of it, no matter how close i get. that rut = binging on sweets. i can eat a lot of them. a lot. and then i feel gross the next ...

Weekend splurging

I recently gained two pounds. Not a huge deal, but I'd much rather be maintaining my goal weight rather than putting pounds back on. I especially don't want this gaining pattern to continue. So, I was desperately trying to figure out how I was gaining weight while running three times a week, strength/core training three times a week, swimming once a week and cycling once a week. That's 4000+ calories burned! I've also been staying all green about 70% of the week and keeping my sodium down. So, where is this weight coming from??

I realized the culprit when I got ...

I used to love going to get a fast burrito. You know the kind -- steak or grilled chicken, black beans or pinto beans, rice, pico de gallo, salsa, even sometimes sour cream, cheese and guacamole. I could eat a whole burrito, no problem.

Today I went for lunch with a friend. I made two big mistakes, both of which I have learned from (I'm a quick study) and will not repeat.

Mistake #1: I went out to lunch after I quickly got cleaned up after my gym workout. I worked out hard today, so was HUNGRY! Next time, I will eat ...

Last night my little monkey had a rough night. We were up from 1 am until about 3 am. Night time is a hard time for me. I tend to wander into the kitchen and munch without even thinking. I downed a lot of left over Halloween candy. Then to make it worse this morning I ate a lot of cornbread. An unreasonable amount of cornbread. A REALLY unreasonable amount. I'm not really sure why either, it didn't taste THAT good. It was almost as if I were trying to bury some emotion in my stomach with it. Now I ...

Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think
Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think
By Brian Wansink

In this illuminating and groundbreaking new book, food psychologist Brian Wansink shows why you may not realize how much you’re eating, what you’re eating–or why you’re even eating at all.

• Does food with a brand name really taste better?
• Do you hate brussels sprouts because your mother did?
• Does the size of your plate determine how hungry you feel?
• How much would you eat if your soup bowl secretly refilled itself?
• What does your favorite comfort food really say about you?
• Why do ...

Why Can't I Stop Eating
It's like some devil got inside me and gave me the munchies. I'm a New Yorker, we go out at least once a week and drinking is a past time; as well as in my family. A fun social foodie activity but, these days it seems That eventhough I can usually control my cravings to prepare for a night out or to control my after drinking munchies, I've been ridiculously overeating since the 4th of July. What the FFsdfnkdjf 8jnj!!! I've gained 2.8 lbs and I haven't been this heavy in a while. I really am having a problem overeating ...

Why We Can't Eat Just One
"The End of Overeating" by Dr. David Kessler was mentioned in the comments of one of the book threads the other day. Here's a link to a very interesting interview with him:
