| March 4, 2010, 8:57 am HRM? Can I share with hubby?
readytorun | I'd like to buy a HRM within the next month. I know there are several helpful posts on this topic, but one question I haven't see is can these devices be shared by two people not working out simultaneously? Or is it the personalized aspects that make them so useful, like the set up and workout history? If so, I suppose there would have to be a User 1 and User 2 button . . .
Or do you wear your HRM all day, so hubby and I might want separate ones? One commenter suggested they weren't that effective when the ... |

lilifx | To overcome adrenal fatigue, my chiropractor (who as you all know from my recent illness is the best healthcare professional currently on my team) prescribed a very strict target heart rate for my workouts. I am NEVER to exceed it. Here's the formula:
180 - (your age) = target heart rate
Since I'm 34, mine is 146. My HRM is set up to beeeeeep like crazy if I go over 146, encouraging me to slow down to get it back to a more reasonable rate.
She said that this has proven over and over again to be the easiest on ... |

August 28, 2009, 5:40 am HR exceeded 100% of Max during Run - Does this happen to you, too? Is it okay?
NM4Life | Yesterday I was running at a track. It was not intense - my standard 5.3 mph or so. (For me, that's neither a slow jog nor a sprint. It's my standard, mid-distance run speed.)
Anyhow, after about 2 miles, I happened to notice that my heart rate was at 125% of my maximum. I stopped and walked until it came down to 70%. I started running again and after 1/2 mile it was back up to 100%. Again I walked until it came down. I tried one last time and again it hit 100%. At this point I was starting to ... |

MelissaEileen | I just got my HRM (Polar F4) today and, of course, was excited to test it out by taking my dog out for a short run. When I first started running, it was recording my heart rate, calories, etc. just fine, but about half way into my run it just stopped recording my heart rate and then started back up again about 10 minutes later. I got the HRM new out of the box, so I would hope that it wouldn't have problems already; hopefully it's just operator error. I did make sure that the chest strap was wet before ... |
continue reading 3 comments August 20, 2009, 5:09 pm The Experiment... cont'd | I've been googling like mad and found that I burned around 660 calories while I slept (according to this: http://www.fitwatch.com/phpscripts/viewexercise.php?descr=sleeping&mets=0.9 )
Does that seem high to anyone else? Mind you, another site said we burn approximately 77 calories an hour whilewe sleep, which (yes I slept ten hours) would be 770, so maybe not.
That puts my grand total during a non excercise day at ... 2200 calories??? Really??? Whoa! To maintain!!
I don't think that's right. It seems much too high. That would mean that to lose a pound a week I should be eating 1600 calories, without excercise (plus any ... |
continue reading 8 comments August 20, 2009, 11:15 am The Experiment... Results | The result: After 24 hours the HRM reads 1540 calories burned.
Factors:
- No excercise.
- Average work day.
- Sensors dried and don't know how long it went without recoding while I slept. Probably not more than 300 calories. During the day was 1300, so what do you think... a third the calorie burn while sleeping? Anyone know? ... |
continue reading 5 comments August 19, 2009, 11:21 am An experiment... | I'm running an experiment with my heart rate moniter. I'm wearing if for a 24 hour period of normal activity with no excercise, just to see what my caloric burn is. Interesting, huh?
The only thing is that the sensors dried out while I was sleeping, so it didn't register, but I have no idea for how long! So I may be off by a couple or a couple of hundred.
My thought is I'll have to do it again, without the sleeping part, and work out the difference... no, that won't work. Hrmph. Any suggestions? Can I stick wet cotton balls ... |

erinATX | Tonight my 3 best girl friends and I are strapping on our most comfortable stilettos and stepping out for some serious dancing. It's our favorite thing to do and I've been looking forward to tonight all week long!
Just thought you all would be amused that I briefly considered also strapping on my heart rate monitor to get an accurate reading of how many calories I burn! Haha...I don't think it's going with the outfit tonight but I'm sure I'm going to get a mighty workout in. ... |

elguapo | I received a Timex T5J031 Digital Fitness HRM Watch as a gift and I really like it except for on thing: The "Calories Burned" feature seems way off.
For example, the watch will show that I've burned 298 calories on a 30 minute, 1 mile walk in which my average heart rate is 111 BPM. From everything I've read, a walk of that type should burn around 100 calories for someone of my weight.
Also, if my resting metabolism is between 1400 and 1800 calories (and I've confirmed that it is in that range through a very reputable and professional testing facility) ... |

Melissa71 | A quick clarification needed! I just recently bought an HRM watch with a calorie count. I started exercising again on cardio machines in the gym. SOOO, when I switch the wrist one on, it shows almost twice as high calorie consumption as the one on the elliptical machine in the gym. When I do the calcs via http://www.triathlontrainingblog.com/?page_id=483 which I think Shopkeeper suggested in one of his responses, I also get very high cals for the average heart rate the elliptical gives me. I split the exercise in 10min for variation, but my heart rate seems to be rather high, ... |
continue reading 9 comments June 30, 2009, 8:57 am NM Store/Heart Rate Monitor | A resent post asked if the NM Store would be stocking Heart Rate Monitors.
Unfortunately no. The most popular brand is "Polar". This is the one most people have recommended. There are a few types within this brand to choose from.
A good sport store should be able to help you decide which type is best for each individuals needs.
On a happier note, we are getting very close to stocking new items in the store.
NutriMirror shirts, hats, visors, mugs, water bottles... ... |
continue reading 7 comments June 22, 2009, 8:36 am Help! Using my HRM to figure calories burned?? | I just got a HRM. I got the Omron HR-100C because it had good user reviews online and was very affordable. It seems to do a good job of accurately tracking my heart rate, I tested it out during exercising yesterday. What I don't understand is, how do I translate my heart rate information into how many calories I burn? I assume calories burned depends on a persons gender, size, muscle tone, etc?? The monitor itself does not seem to have a calories burned option.
Any help would be much appreciated! ... |
