| December 13, 2009, 3:27 pm Ready to get serious
clashburn | I am officially ready to get serious about getting healthier and taking care of myself better. I have done the gym thing before, and the diets, etc... I am tired of being tired and lazy and not motivated. I know that when I was exercising/working out regularly I felt much better. I need to think of some things to help me keep this attitude going. My dog has even gotten fat because I am too lazy to take her out and walk her. I think that's what really did it. Poor thing. She can't help it, but I can! I ... |

I was incredulous, but I just tried it. I've been wanting an air popper, but I eat popcorn infrequently enough it seemed like just another expensive gadget to take up precious counter space. But as it turns out, all you need to do is put some kernels in a brown paper bag, fold the end over and nuke them in the microwave! You have to keep an eye on the time, because ... |

Went back to my home town last week to visit with my childhood girlfriend. (Had not seen her in 23 years.) She is such a different person. She weighs about 100lbs more than I and has an attitude of "I can't because I'm afraid". She has everything going for her, but she has given up on life...I don't want to give up on life...I am not a quitter! I am healthy, strong and I can do anything I put my mind to. A couple of days after I came home I went to a movie with one of my adult ... |

tmcdermott | I answered this question for a fellow NM member and thought I'd share my two cents. I don't often have to eat fast food (stay at home mom), but I know it's the fastest, easiest, convenient and cheap way to eat lunch when you're working and on the go. I've been there too, however, I weighed about 30 lbs more than I do now too!
First, look up the websites in advance for the nutritional value of your food options and stash them in your car. That way you can drive thru and not have too much pressure on yourself to ... |

These are great, you're going to love them. Mom reworked this already healthy recipe to be even more friendly towards your day by lessening the sugar by half, adding whole wheat flour, and using the walnuts as a garnish rather than a main ingredient.
The ingredient list is long, but look it over before you cross this recipe off your to-do list. Most of the ingredients are probably already in your pantry.
Ingredients
- Canola oil, 1/3 cup (46 grams)
- Lowfat buttermilk, 1/3 cup (48 grams)
- Brown sugar, 1/2 cup (96 grams)
- Pineapple juice, 1/3 cup (58 grams) -drained from the can of crushed pineapple
- Egg, 1

March 16, 2009, 1:17 pm Green Day!
dollylonglegs | Ok, so it's actually a little early to be celebrating my all-green day because my boyfriend and I haven't actually made dinner, we've just planned it out.
I was so afraid that I'd backslide and lose all of my hard work (and gain back those 5 pounds!) over spring break, but my boyfriend is really into healthy eating, so I think I might gain ground and lose weight this break rather than lose ground and gain weight!
This actually comes at a very opportune time, as my last week or so of logging shows a lot of red -- I guess after ... |

dollylonglegs | I find it amazing (and a little unnerving) how little I really knew about nutrition just yesterday when I started on NutriMirror. Mostly all I knew was fried food bad, vegetables good. Skim milk calories < Whole milk calories. Me Tarzan, you Jane! Oooh ooh, ahh ahh!
Even when I tried to eat "healthy" today I found that I was still below par for all the good stuff like fiber and iron and still overboard on fats and cholesterol and whatnot. And sodium, but that's a lost cause for a salt-oholic like me.
Those things I can deal with, but I've determined ... |

Tip number 4 is to keep a journal -how insightful of them. My favorite tip of all is #8 (although I don't like what they call it, Breakfast In Bed). Number 8 is about slowing down and getting to know your food, enjoying food and the process of making and eating it. Does this list hit home? How many of the tips are already part of your day (excluding the obvious #4)? And are there any you're going to try |
continue reading 2 comments January 31, 2009, 7:56 am Overeating Better | I am a binge eater, which I hate to admit. My mind goes numb and I can't stop eating no matter how terrible I feel and how terrible I know I'll feel.
For example, two nights ago I ate the following from 11:00PM-2:00AM knowing that I would have school the next day.
~12 oz package of M&M's
~5 cookies
~10 bowls of frosted mini wheats
~1 gallon of milk
~red hots, candy corn, peppermints, and jelly beans by the handful
~1 bag (NOT snack size) of pretzels
~1 package of cinnamon sugar graham crackers
Bad!!! I decided that this would not happen anymore, even though it's been going on ... |

There's much to learn from her "don't throw it away" tips and her suggestions for what you don't need in your kitchen (we however, will not be getting rid of our Cuisinart). Viana says, "To eat well means to know how and when to eat, it means eating appropriately. It is an attitude of respect toward the food you eat. It requires focus, an opening up of the senses, an embracing of the moment." Do you have an attitude of |
