![]() female, 45 years old | November 26, 2009, 7:05 pm I’m a Berbee Derbier!![]() This day is the kind of day that will bring me the warm fuzzies for years to come! My son couldn’t be home today so I wore my Marineware and my the hat that he left me so he was here in spirit. My daughter-in-law, her sister and my 2 oldest grandchildren joined my husband to watch me run. We left early to make sure we got a parking spot. As we got out of the vehicle we could hear music playing in the background and even though it was cold, soggy and very breezy the mood was festive. I had the best warm up…the grandkids and I danced to the awesome music blaring from blocks away, skipped up and down the sidewalks not caring what the rest of the world thought. After a bit I decided to unleash my HRM because I was already workin’ out just warming up! People watching was fantastic…there were about 4000 participants in the event itself! There were people dressed up as turkeys…people with turkey hats…serious runners…serious partiers…young, old, big , little, people with dogs, dogs with people… you get the picture. There were so many people it took be about 3 minutes to even get to the starting line after the horn blew. It was fun dodging in and out of people and a little frustrating as several times the people ahead of me just stopped running…then I realized I no longer belonged on the right side because I could run the whole way. Once I realized that, I must have had a huge grin on my face because as I passed some event volunteers one said, “Oh look, it’s a good sign when people are smiling!” and she winked at me. And you guys…I was passing people…people who I thought were more fit than me!! During the run, we were heading toward a hill and I heard this woman say to her friend, “Oh no, look at that hill!” I looked at the hill coming up and thought…that’s not so bad and it wasn’t. I felt so strong and empowered as I passed people going uphill! Dang…I am certainly not the same person I was when I did my first 4 miler! I finished with a time of 31:58. Now I know it’s not a fantastic time compared to some…but compared to me…WOWZERS!...I sure have made some progress! After we got home everyone stayed to watch the football game and then for dinner. As I put out fresh vegetables and fresh fruit for the game, my granddaughter told me she loves coming to my house because there are so many fruits and vegetables. I did a double take and smiled as I watched her scarf the cherry tomatoes like they were candy. So much to be thankful for! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
