March 3, 2010, 2:45 pm Site Trouble | Hi everybody,
Sorry for all the trouble today and yesterday. The server and the code just haven't been keeping up with the extra traffic, and minor problems have been snowballing with all the people lining up for access.
I've made a few little code adjustments, and hopefully that will tide us over for a bit until we can do some more serious work under the hood. I'm about to turn things back on for you, so I've got my fingers crossed that it will run more smoothly for a while.
Thanks for your patience! ... |

Beginning late tonight (Friday) and possibly through the weekend, I'm going to be doing some maintenance work on the site's journaling system. Community posts may become inaccessible during this time, but don't panic! I won't be taking away or adding any new features, but I'm hoping to make some of the hamster wheels run more smoothly behind the scenes. If we're lucky this won't be too much of an inconvenience.
Thanks! ... |

January 24, 2010, 10:19 pm New Journal Categories | So I'm sure you've all noticed the changes to the right-hand column. We've had lots of people posting in this new year, so I've added a few categories to make things a little better organized, and hopefully give you all a better chance to follow the conversations you're most interested in.
Eventually we'll be implementing a full overhaul of how the journal community works, but for now I'm hoping that this helps to make things a little easier.
A few things to note:
1) Click the arrows next to any of the category headings to hide the posts within that category. This should ... |

I want to start by thanking you all for your support of NutriMirror. Every member makes this site a better place, and we love hearing your thoughts and helpful advice here in the journal community.
As you know, the site is constantly growing and developing. We have big plans for things we'd like to do in the future, but we'd also like to hear any ideas you have.
I'll make this a permanent post so that you'll always be able to come back to it any time you have a new thought. You'll find it under the more heading, just above |

I know they're kind of tiny, but I hope they're helpful as far as letting you all know who the posts are from before you click. Let me know what you think. And let me know if the size of the link text changed unreasonably. Thanks.

Many of you have noticed the out-of-order posts and comments, which are related to the server restart this afternoon. I'm assuming that the trouble is all behind us, and that future posts and comments will be arriving in their proper order. But just to confirm, do me a favor and add a comment to this post, letting me know what time zone you're in. Thanks!

I don't want to make a big deal about this, but after some of the recent tension in the room I've finally implemented a feature that's been requested a few times. You now have the ability to "hide" any users whose posts and comments, for one reason or another, you don't want to see as you browse the site.
You'll find the "hide this person" link on every member's page, just below the links for About, Pictures, Journal, etc. Click it, and all of that member's activity will be hidden from you. And of course you'll be able to ... |

November 4, 2009, 9:39 pm updated Nov 4, 2009, 10:26 pm Adventures in Web Serving — Update | Well that was a fun day.
I don't even know how to begin to tell you all we've been through since about 6 a.m. this morning, but I'll just summarize by saying that we're finally on our new web server, a few days earlier than our much-delayed plan.
Whoopee?
Anyway, there are still problems, mainly this: Most of you can't log into the site.
As a temporary fix, you can try issuing a new password here:

Microsoft seems to have invented a new problem for us today. If you're using the Internet Explorer browser, you might be having trouble logging your exercises using Method One. Until I can get this working properly again, you'll have better luck if you try an alternate browser like Firefox or Safari.
If these aren't already on your computer, you can download them for free here:

I'm aware that some of you are having trouble posting foods to your log today. I suspect that this is related to the switch to Daylight Savings Time.
As a temporary workaround until we can get this straightened out, try following Poopie's suggestion and go to a day in the past, before you joined, to log your day there. You'll be able to use the "make menu" option to quickly transfer the data to the correct day once we get this straightened out.

We'll need to take the site offline for a while during that time, but I don't expect any major problems with the transition. I'll post a notice ahead of time so you'll know when to expect that. Runners are baring their very soles
"Ouch!" "Oooh!" "Oww!" "Omigod, that hurts!" Those grunts of pain and anguish weren't coming from us -- a group of 10 people running barefoot on a concrete pathway at Central Park in Huntington Beach early one recent Saturday morning. They were being emitted by a grimacing group of shoe-wearing, dog-walking women who were staring at us as we passed.
But surprisingly, it didn't hurt |

I just want to let everybody know that I'll be looking into this today. In the meantime, though, don't let this stop you from logging. You all should still be able to find your foods. Since there's always lots of talk about Heart Rate Monitors, I'm going to create this page as a more permanent feature so we can all benefit from keeping the discussion in one place. I've started off by creating a few links for HRMs that have been talked about lately. If you use any of these, go ahead and tell us what you think of them in the comments below. If there are other monitors that you use or want to know more about, let me know and I'll update the list. Thanks!

Hey, Time, 'Exercise won't make you thin'? What were you thinking?
Fitness and health experts say Time magazine got it wrong this week with its cover story, "Why Exercise Won't Make You Thin." The story argues that even though more people than ever are exercising, obesity rates are still rising. Moreover, the article posits that exercise backfires as |

It's a 99 cent app called Grocery IQ. It's an easy, paperless grocery list that automatically organizes your shopping items by grocery aisle. You can add items in seconds, and knock them off your list with a click or a swipe. It also keeps a list of your favorites and shopping history so you can quickly put items you use regularly back onto your main list.
