NM Book Club Discussion: “Diet for a Small Planet”

Thanks to Cascade Lady for recognizing that the NM Book Club is an underused feature and for recommending that by featuring book titles for discussion we might bring it to life. We agree.

Her suggestion for the first book to discuss is the classic “Diet for a Small Planet” by Francis Moore Lappe. If you have read this book, or wish to purchase and read it, the discussion will begin this MONDAY, JANUARY 18 and continue through the month of February, or until you or the subject is exhausted (whichever wears out first).

The discussion will take place in the NM Book Club area. This will be a free-form discussion, not real time, just as you now experience the Journal Room posts/replies. Someone writes a post and then any reader who is interested can make a reply. And, whenever a new reply is made we are informed through the “New Activity” feature.

Cascade Lady will act as the discussion facilitator and provide the lead review. I would expect her review might be the main thread where we make our replies, personal takes, and seek answers to our questions. Of course, if anyone wishes to write their own review and start a discussion thread that’s fine, too. Just remember, to remain in the “New Activity” feedback loop you need to make a reply to any post that you want to follow.

To find the discussion area go to the Book Club Room and scroll the list of book titles until you come to “Diet for a Small Planet”. You’ll see a quick overview of the book which is provided by the publisher. The discussion begins January 18, or whenever Cascade Lady’s review appears.

If you don’t have a copy of the book you can order one through the link we provide to Amazon.com. NM gets a small commission on any book ordered by you through the NM link. Every little bit helps to keep us free.

See you Monday, January 18 in the Book Club room. I look forward to learning about this important book. I would love to know if, and how, the NM tool might make the content and premise of Lappe’s book actionable for all of us.

If you have any books that you think should be considered as a monthly discussion feature you might make note of it here. Give us the title, author, and tell us why.
