NutriMirror Staff![]() male, 69 years old fallbrook, CA | Hints & TipsJanuary 1, 2010, 9:23 am NM: The 8 Guiding Truths --And a Hope for 2010NutriMirror's 8 Guiding Truths forLifetime Weight Control and Nutritional Balance (Two of the original 9 truths have been merged into one). ------------------------------------------------- It is appropriate that on the first day of every new year we repost the Guiding Truths. People who accept and act upon these truths WILL be successful at life-long weight control and nutritional balance. They were not designed by health care professionals, or scholars, or business interests in pursuit of a quick buck. These truths have emerged from the NM journal Room. In one way or another these are the themes that contiue to be heard as members support and advise those who are struggling in the journey. A proper mindset is everything. The values we hold shape our attitudes. And, our attitudes determine our behaviors/choices. I simply collected and shaped your personally expressed values a bit. In our new book Balanced Days, Balanced Lives (March 2010 Pub Date) I've written an essay in support of each of them. Looking back at the wonderful people we lost somewhere along the way in 2009, I feel many could not or would not come to own one or more of these basic truths. Without being dogmatic, unkind, or preachy, it is my hope this year to do a better job of commuicating to people caught up in the yo-yo mindsets of the diet world that there is a better way. I hope you join me in that effort. Maybe, together, we can keep our family united in living by these successful values. Happy New Year to each of you and the ones you hold dear. ----------------------------------------------- 1. Balancing calories and nutrition is a LIFE-LONG process; "after" does not exist. 2. The key to life-long health is finding pleasure in the choices that move us to balance. 3. A slow approach to weight loss is better than extreme calorie deprival. You must eat! 4. We must satisfy our nutritional needs through wise food choices. 5. Eating frequently, throughout the day, is a winning strategy. 6. Physical activity is important for both better health and effective weight control. 7. Perfection is a rocky road that leads to failure. Have a forgiving mindset. 8. We cannot successfully manage performance we cannot measure.
