Without jumping into the fray and taking a side on the lively Blood Type Diet post, let me say this about NM. Fundamentally NM is, as one of the comments to that thread stated, about two things only: balancing calories for a healthy weight AND nutritional balancing. The Gold Standard for determining nutritional balance, at the heart of the NM system, is the Dietary Reference Intake Tables published by the National Academy of Sciences.

If one does not accept the math and science behind calorie balancing and the validity of the DRI Tables, NM has NOTHING to offer you.

It is my observation (that does not make it a fact) that the authors of most any Dietary Guidance Plan of the past 60 years would be ecstatic if their clients ended up accomplishing calorie balance and nutritional balance for life. On the subject of weight and nutrition, they all seem to end up in agreement on this: you must manage your calories to achieve both energy balance and nutritional balance.

HOW best to reach these BALANCES is what most of the drama, books, teaching, pyramids, theories, open warfare, and preaching boils down to(in my mind, at least). The fact that a simple tool like this never existed before alllows much of what has been written in that regard to exist, be sought, flourish … and, as illustrated in the Blood Type post, to be contentious.

At NM, we're all focused on the same two bottom-line things ---no matter which expert or plan we may follow. (That is why there is so little DRAMA on this site.) We make the process and likelihood of achieving BALANCE easier. One day I hope there will be scientific studies and validation that NM improves the chances at lifetime weight control and nutritional balance. Until then we rely upon your anecdotal affirmations.

We have reduced 60 years of competing Instruction and Guidance to three simple words: "GO for Green”! If you use NM and apply the "10 Steps..." (see my journal archives), you will successfully meet these two critical BALANCE standards for health.

I do not write this to say once you have discovered NM you should stop reading and learning about all the things that may improve your body and your health. Like another wise commenter to the thread said, you should learn to find something practical from whatever you may read. However, when you put into practice whatever it is you may have read and believe,in the end you will always still need to balance your calories and meet your nutritional requirements. NM is here to make that job easier and to keep you in control of the process for life.

Finally, I HOPE that whenever people offer opinions on a matter, we can refrain from making responses that are directed in a personal way. A factually contentious subject never receives greater clarity by jumping onto a negative, personal track. We want everyone using the NM journal to feel like they can offer opinions and judgments safely. We can disagree without being disagreeable or personal.
