NutriMirror Staff![]() male, 69 years old fallbrook, CA | Hints & TipsApril 26, 2009, 11:11 pm There is Great Pleasure to be found in Green Food DaysThis post is dedicated to my lovely niece, Jessica. I learned through the grapevine she joined NM recently and has lost 20 pounds while discovering the JOY in her healthy new food choices.******************** My Sunday started with a brisk 90 minute walk that, added to my weight goal calories, gave me just over 2,000 calories I could eat for the day. I did something I rarely do: prepared and ate all three meals in my home. (Check my Food Log). I ate meals I have frequently enough that they have been made into MENUS; even all those snacks are stored in a single MENU. All the foods you see in my Food Log were entered with just four clicks. Including the clicks for exercise and navigation, everything was entered in about a dozen clicks. By sharing, I want to demonstrate a point I make frequently in my comments to many of your posts. To be successful at lifetime weight control and nutritional balance we MUST learn to discover the pleasure and the joy in our healthy choices. And, it is SO possible. This must be a journey that, at some point in time, becomes experienced as joy; not deprival. I used to define pleasure as a double cheeseburger, large fries, and a large strawberry shake; the foods that led to my hypertension, that were slowly killing me. That toxic 15 minute cheeseburger lunch totaled 2200 calories---more than the entire green day I’m sharing in my Food Log. Here’s all that I get to do eat now to replace that single red-driving luncheon choice of the past: BREAKFAST: Omelet (egg beaters) with low fat cheese, shrimp, ranchero sauce and green-peppers; Ezekial bread with avocado slices. LUNCH: Grilled Salmon; Fresh Steamed Squash and Spinach; Sourdough Baguette w/avocado. DINNER: Roast Chicken Breast; Cous Cous; Tomatoes; Fresh Grilled Asparagus; Angel Food Cake with fresh Strawberries and Cool Whip. SNACKS: Baby carrots; V8 Juice; High Fiber Blueberry Muffin; Apple; Orange; Pop-Corn; Fudgsicle. How could I ever compare this green day to things of the past and think of it as deprival? Without question there is pleasure to be found in the process of weight control and nutritional balance. Green is a Joyful color, don't you think?
