Chia seeds

I've been eating chia seeds in my cereal for a while now, and am wondering if I need to be grinding them. I don't know if my body is getting all the nutrients out of them. They are so tiny I didn't think they would need to be ground, but maybe they do. Don't want to waste the nutrients. Does anyone know the answer to this?
