![]() male, 64 years old | About MeI retired in 2007 due to disability. While it was wonderful not to have to go to work, too much time piddling, too much time in front of the stove, reduced stress and some very poor lifestyle choices all contributed to my piling on the pounds.I joined a local gym and really enjoyed getting into the routine of working out on a pretty regular basis. Exercise has helped to melt away some of the unwanted weight. I've been absolutely amazed that what I thought was a healthy diet is actually way over-the-top with regard to saturated fat and salt (I never use the stuff - but it hides in just about everything!) As a result of using this site, I also discovered that my evening nibbling had to stop. It was tough realizing that I'd hit my caloric intake limit at suppertime, but cutting out the evening snacks has helped me lose about 1 lb a week so far. My GoalsAbout 15 lbs will get me back into my favorite slacks and hopefully make some or all of my 40-gallon tank disappear. 20 lbs would put me back at my fighting weight then look out world! UPDATE: The first goal of 15 lbs whizzed by so fast that I barely noticed it - but a friend who I hadn't seen in a while called me "skinny". Wow. Now I've reset my weight loss goal to a previously unthinkable 25 lbs. which would put me close to where I was for most of my adult life. Who'dathunkit? UPDATE 2: After 10 months, my weight is down 30 lbs. and I'm now in maintenance mode. I would never have believed that I could reach this benchmark. Thanks NM! |
