![]() female, 32 years old SW Corner of, MN | November 7, 2009, 7:12 am Is 1200 a "magic" number?I often find myself thinking, is 1200 calories everyone's magic number? I understand having a suggested calorie minimum, I think it is a great idea. Because of our human nature, a lot of times we think "the more the better" and in weight loss some people think the bigger the calorie deficit the better. Thank goodness all of us on NutriMirror know that is not true! But here is what I am wondering. Do you think 1200 is everyone's magic number? I know over the months I have actually read people say they think they can not be starving because they have been over 1200 calories, and sure they have, they were at 1205, 1220, 1212, 1280, etc. Personally, I think their body could still have easily been starving. I wonder if each person's body has it's own "magic number". Just think about how many different body types, differenent heights, different BMIs, and different rates of metabolism there are. It makes sense that each body has it's own magic number, it's own starvation threshold. If you are stalled with your weight loss, maybe give this some thought. Are you using the magic 1200 number instead of the personalized weight loss number that NM so wonderfully provides for you? Consider giving the NM weight loss number a try. It is taking your height, weight and activity level into consideration - the generic 1200 number is not. Your body is a wonderful, ingenius work or art, but it doesn't know the difference between 1150 calories and 1210 calories, it doesn't know that 1200 is the magic number, probably because it's actual magic number could be higher. So trust in the NM system and try eating as close to your weight loss calories as you can. And, after doing this for a few weeks, if your weight loss does not match up closely to what NM says you should have lost, then look into making sure your activity level is set accurately. I think my magic number on days without exercise is probably somewhere around 1400 calories because of my height. I listen to my body and never let it feel hungry. What do you think your magic number is? I'm sure the generic 1200 is about right for some people, but my guess is that is could be actually to low for a good majority of people. So, what do you think? Use the lowest recommended generic 1200 or use the personalized NM weight loss calories?
