I am a very inquisitive person! So, I went to the gym today for the first time since August, and I'm really proud of myself! I did the elliptical for 45 minutes and was on my way to a 12 minute mile when I checked my heart rate and it was 170bpm! Yikes! I backed off a little but it got my wondering. I've read that if you were physically active before you got pregnant it's ok to continue exercise, as long as it's not too strenuous. That's the main reason why I'm trying really hard to get back to the gym this semester. What's too much exercise? I've also read that exercising too much can keep you from having normal cycles, which is also kind of important in getting pregnant. I spent most of my life on a couch or in front of a computer. I didn't start working out for real until a year and a half ago, and I'm worried because I don't know what strenuous exercise is... are my 45 minutes on the elliptical too much? I'll feel like a pansy if I don't work my hardest, but should I switch to something like the treadmill instead and just give myself a good long walk? But that won't burn as many calories... Anyone out there have any suggestions?
