American Heart Association recommends lower sodium (duh..)

http://americanheart.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=700

The American Heart Association recommends most people keep their sodium to a shockingly low (according to my food log) 1200mg a day (the current suggested max is 2300mg/day). This is because many people are salt-sensitive, and this new figure could significantly lower blood pressure and promote heart health.

At least the AHA recognizes that 1200mg is a ridiculous number if you don't make all of your food from scratch, and so they are also going to work with several federal agencies to try to lower the amount of salt added to commercial foods. In the interim, they suggest that everyone at least try to stick to the 2300mg suggestion, which is well below the national average of more than 3400mg daily.

On a personal note: I get so frustrated by sodium (usually 125-150%), especially on days like today where everything else is green, but at least I know I'm below the national average! :)
