Squash, that is. I have no idea if this variety of squash has a technical name, but my favorite produce stand calls it "sweet meat" squash. If you find one, buy it, cook it, eat it! It is the best squash I have ever tasted. I had one a few days ago. Yesterday I went back to buy 2 more. One of them (the one in the picture) had a small "nasty" spot on it (on the top, a little left of center). The clerk asked me if I wanted to trade it for another one, and I sort of waffled, then decided I would get a different one. I asked her if she wanted me to take that one back, and she said, "No, it'll have to go in the garbage. I then asked if they ever donated damaged goods to soup kitchens, and she told me they go back to the field and get plowed under. I was headed back to the squashes, when she called me to come back. She winked at me, and without moving her lips, whispered, "Hey, if it's getting trashed anyway, why don't I just give it to you?" I took it, and it's in the oven now. What a great day at the produce stand! Oh, I also came home with a twin to that squash, a "tree" of brussels sprouts, another pomegranate, and 2 persimmons. I'm a happy camper!
