TGIF with Kel 3/12/10: Give me the Real Stuff, Baby!
TGIF with Kel 3/12/10: Give me the Real Stuff, Baby!I am an April baby. My birthstone is the diamond. I have always loved diamonds!

Who has the bank account to enjoy as much bling as I enjoy? I have far more cubic zirconia than I do diamonds.

This love for all things glittery goes back to my childhood, when I would beg my mother for a quarter for the toy dispensing machines in hopes of getting a ring. I would wear it proudly, until it broke, it was lost, or it turned my finger some horrible shade of green.

Seems I have spent my lifetime seeking out crystals of one ...

SERVING up a SMILE 3/09/10: Turn Your Kids into Green Machines
SERVING up a SMILE 3/09/10: Turn Your Kids into Green Machines[Pictured Above: My nephew VJ, in the kitchen, whipping up some healthy vittles from his home in Brooklyn, NY]

Ahhhh, kids. They’re cute, they’re witty and they think that their underwear and socks belong on the living room floor. We love them and there isn’t much we wouldn’t do to protect them. Even so, weight management and favorable dietary practices are some seriously difficult topics to tackle. Let’s face it, parenting, in general, is a complicated task all in itself!

Between school, extra curricular activities and visits with family and friends, my girls are exposed to much more unhealthy food than ...

TGIF with Kel: 3/5/10 Tell that Phantom He Isn't Welcome Here!
TGIF with Kel: 3/5/10 Tell that Phantom He Isn't Welcome Here!I recently googled the phrase Phantom Fat.

I got 3,440,000 hits. It certainly sounds like this is a highly discussed subject!

I wonder when the struggles with the Demon begins. Is it once you have reached maintenance? Is it the force that causes people with a healthy BMI to start starving themselves to lose 3 pounds which will make them perfect? Perhaps You do not realize the effect it is indeed having on you.

Ever take a pair of pants into the dressing room, hoping that you will be able to get into them? You pull them on easily, zip them , ...

SERVING up a FAUX SMILE: 3-3-10
SERVING up a FAUX SMILE: 3-3-10Good morning everyone! I come to you from a cloudy stupor after being wiped out cold! I have spent more than ten days being sick; fighting it tooth-n-nail until it caught up with me. I had a cold, it turned into bronchitis, and finally, I caught a stomach flu. I have been lucky to walk from the bed to the couch and back to the bed.

I awake today feeling much better. This is no longer a Tuesday but I hope Jim will let this one slide as I turned 35 today :-)

So, I found a happy posting from ...

TGIF with Kel 2/26/10 Kiss My Olive Oil!
TGIF with Kel 2/26/10 Kiss My Olive Oil!I want to know who the joker is decades ago that decided to describe people who were overweight as fat.

That gave the nutrient fat a bad rap; that label, and the Diet Industry, that is.

Foods are made up of the macronutrients carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Sometimes the macronutrient is present, sometimes it is not.

These macronutrients contain a different amount of fuel per gram; carbohydrates and proteins each have 4 calories per gram, and poor maligned fats have 9 calories per gram. Picked on and abused just because they bring more calories to the party.

I won’t go into ...

SERVING up a SMILE 2/23/10: Warm & Roasty
SERVING up a SMILE 2/23/10: Warm & Roasty[Pictured Above: Roasted Root Vegetables, recipe below.]

Each week, Kel and I come to you with (hopefully) fresh ideas. I won’t lie to you, much of my inspiration comes directly from the journal room. Either I see a common thread in the journal room or maybe there’s a shout out for new ideas. There is usually no lack of posts of people in search of MORE FIBER!, LESS SODIUM! or just people who "Don’t Like Veggies!" When I saw HaleyB’s recipe for Roasted Parsnip and Cippollini Onions yesterday, well, first I became hungry but then I thought about ...
