Photo #2 is the clear winner in the, "Which photo should we use for our NM book contributor photo contest?" And it was you, the people of NutriMirror, that pushed the winning photo ahead. We posed the question on the m.o.m blog, Facebook page, and Twitter, but it was NM that had the most to say about the choice (as it should be). Thank you for taking the pressure off and making the decision for us! You all are the best!
Here's the breakdown on voting.

continue reading 16 comments February 26, 2010, 8:35 am The New Way Forward to Lasting National Change | An article appeared in my newspaper today that I find very encouraging. Since “encouraging” news is so rare these days, I thought I’d maybe brighten your day a bit by sharing.
Both Pepsi and Coca Cola are purchasing the North American operations of their largest bottlers. “Both firms want to control distribution in their domestic market, where soft drink sales are slumping as people switch to juices and teas or skip purchases to save money”.
Many of you are discovering (or already have) that the calorie trade outs between sugary drinks and whole foods are a no-brainer. When you are armed ... |

Voting will end tonight, 2-25-10 at midnight PST. Hi everyone!
As some of you know, we have been away from the Journal Room for quite a long time working on the upcoming NutriMirror book, Balanced Days, Balanced Lives. Well, we are 98% finished and one of the last things we have to do is send in our contributor’s photo. This is where we need your help…we are having a heck of a time choosing a picture! I’ve been able to narrow the field down to two, but beyond that we’re stuck. So this is where you come in…tell us what you think, |

They are a multi-talented mother and daughter team that created delicious and healthy dishes they shared with the NM family. You can still access their old columns through the FEATURED Menu.
For the past nine months they have been on assignment cooking, styling, and photographing foods for NM’s first book project, “Balanced Days, Balanced Lives”.
Their work is complete and now they’re back, cooking up a storm. Look for the column to start back up soon.
But right now, they have a dilemma and need your help. On the ... |

Since there's always lots of talk about Heart Rate Monitors, I'm going to create this page as a more permanent feature so we can all benefit from keeping the discussion in one place. I've started off by creating a few links for HRMs that have been talked about lately. If you use any of these, go ahead and tell us what you think of them in the comments below. If there are other monitors that you use or want to know more about, let me know and I'll update the list. Thanks!

continue reading 59 comments August 4, 2009, 5:23 pm NutriMirror and Kids | The question came up a few times last week about whether NutriMirror works for people under 18, or whether we planned to create a version of the site for kids or teens. While there have been discussions about that, it's not anywhere near the top of the to-do list.
However, I wanted to give you all some background about why a teen/children site would be different from the current site, and why NutriMirror requires members to be at least 18 years old. It gets a bit technical with talk of metabolism and nutrient needs and alternative BMI charts, but if you're ... |

If you would give me your city and state we would have a better idea of how many people we have in each area.
This will help all of you wanting to host your own events. Stay posted.

I have a question regarding fat and the nutrition labels…
Take the "New York Strip Steak Grilled (Home Made)" label for example. It states that there is a total of 8 grams of fat and it shows that there is 3 grams of saturated fat. Where is the other 5 grams of fat?
Surely it's not mono or poly unsaturated fat, or worse yet a trans fat, some labels show all the fats and the grams still don’t always add up to the total fat.
So what's the deal is there some secret fat out there? It doesn't matter what |

Fundamentally NM is, as one of the comments to that thread stated, about two things only: balancing calories for a healthy weight AND nutritional balancing. The Gold Standard for determining nutritional balance, at the heart of the NM system, is the Dietary Reference Intake Tables published by the National Academy of Sciences.
If one does not accept the math and science behind calorie balancing and the validity of the DRI Tables, NM has NOTHING to offer you.

Some of you have noticed some problems with adding new foods today. I think we've got it all working properly now, but those of you who managed to post a new food or recipe this morning should double-check to make sure the information is still correct. There's a good chance you'll find some errors, and you might have to delete an entry or two.
Sorry for the trouble, and please let me know if there are any more problems with this.
Thanks,
Mike

I noticed that the %s for the various nutritional measurements are calculated based on my calories for weight maintenance, but I would like to see them calculated based on my calories recommended to reach my WEIGHT GOAL. The green and red in the charts are helpful, but would be even more helpful if they were based on what I need to intake to LOSE! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Many of the nutrients that we track have targets that are independent of calories eaten. With cholesterol, sodium, and all the vitamins and minerals, you're looking at fixed numbers, |
