hotsy-totsy
hotsy-totsy

We tried out a few more products from the NutriMirror store. This time it was the silicone pot holder, silicone oven mitt, and silicone trivet.

Each one works well and will absolutely protect you and your kitchen surfaces from heat. I do want to mention that the oven mitt is large and will easily fit men. On women it's roomy and may be a bit cumbersome; although it does give ample coverage. The hot pad is also large and I was grateful for the surface area it covered which allowed me to easily grab a baking sheet

New Scale(s) In...Review
We were pleasantly surprised to learn that one of our members (lwentland...Jan 09) is the Marketing Director for some of the nation's leading scale brands: Taylor-Salter. We reviewed their products and made some selections we thought would best fit the needs of our membership---for weighing foods and bodies. Our selections are now available for your review in the NutriMirror Store. She was also kind enough to agree to tell us a bit more about herself and the role and importance of scales. Following is her response. (She started with NM as part of a Weight Loss Contest her company was ...

Do they measure up?
Do they measure up?

We brought home a set of stainless steel measuring spoons from the NutriMirror store a few weeks ago and took them for a test run through the kitchen. We are happy to report that they passed the test and have been given the M.O.M seal of approval.

We knew immediately because of their shape that they would easily fit in the square openings of most spice containers -yay! That may not seem like much, but it's a big deal. Made of stainless steel, the spoons have a nice weight to them, they feel good in your hand. And the rubber grips

Getting Ready for Summer
Getting Ready for Summer

It's time to start thinking about cool and refreshing hot weather treats. Here's a blast from the past, the oldie-but-goody ice pop.

I remember my mother making orange juice popsicles when I was a kid. They were sweet, tart, and so cold my lips would turn pink. As a kid I could never eat them fast enough though, I always had orange juice running down my arm or dripping on my bare feet. Ahh, the memories of summers past.

Izze ice pop

Well the weather was nice last week so we played around with the Frozen

IZZE, that cool refreshing drink!
IZZE, that cool refreshing drink!

We first learned of IZZE sparkling fruit juices a few years ago when we were at a trade show in New York; IZZE was one of the sponsors.

It was hot, our days were long, and the IZZE was free. Boy did it hit the spot. Tart, refreshing, and fizzy; it was the perfect soda replacement.

I just went to the IZZE website and it's pretty groovy -looks like it would be a cool company to work for. I saw that they have some products I wasn't aware of: low calorie, called IZZE-esque and fortified drinks called IZZE fortified (they come in

There is Great Pleasure to be found in Green Food Days
This post is dedicated to my lovely niece, Jessica. I learned through the grapevine she joined NM recently and has lost 20 pounds while discovering the JOY in her healthy new food choices.
********************

My Sunday started with a brisk 90 minute walk that, added to my weight goal calories, gave me just over 2,000 calories I could eat for the day.

I did something I rarely do: prepared and ate all three meals in my home. (Check my Food Log).

I ate meals I have frequently enough that they have been made into MENUS; even all those snacks are stored ...

Weekend Link Love

Here's another list of interwebs obsessions. We hope you enjoy, get a kick out of, and maybe learn a few tricks from them.

  • Me and Goji: Make your own cereal. It's healthy, but it sure ain't cheap.

  • Behind the Burner: What a groovy idea. They get chefs to give up their secret techniques and favorite ingredients. And there are videos.

  • Sunset magazine has been revamped and it's pretty good. You should check it out. But this link will take you to a project they have undertaken, called One Block Diet: They are attempting to grow their ...

    Taking a moment
    Taking a moment

Mom and I have a weekend ritual. On Saturday and Sunday mornings we have what we refer to as, "civilized coffee". We're half joking with that title, but what we do is take the time to sit, chat, and enjoy the morning. There is no agenda, but this does seem to be our best time for ideas and brainstorming. We're definitely morning people and the creativity flows at that time (I however, do not speak until after my first cup).

Effort is put into creating a pleasant environment. We get pleasure from pretty things -not perfect things, but things that

    NM's 9 Guiding Truths
    NutriMirror's 9 Guiding Truths for
Lifetime Weight Control and Nutritional Balance

    1. Balancing calories and nutrition is a LIFETIME process; "after" does not exist.

    2. To be successful for life you must find pleasure in the choices that bring you to balance.(Good news: It is SO possible).

    3. The process can not be about deprival. You must eat. Set a weight goal that allows you (females) to eat at least 1200 calories each day; 1500 for men. Try for a weight loss rate of about 1 pound each week; not more than 10% of your total body weight in 6 months.

    4. You ...

    Making Inconvenience Your Secret Weapon
One of the first things "changers" often do is to remove "trouble" foods from their pantries and fridges. If it is not in easy reach when the craving comes at us, we have the inconvenience of getting off the couch, jumping into the car, and driving somewhere. Oftentimes, the calculation might be, "to heck with it, its not worth the hassle". So, by ading inconvenience, you win.

That same principle can work with your use of NM. As many of our eperienced user have learned, the MENU, FAVORITES, and RECIPE features saves clicks and time when logging. By removing your unhealthier ...
