A Note to the NM Family from Jim

by jim_ray
11/16/09, 6:57 pm

I wanted to let you know that lmatava's (Lynn) column "Serving It Up With a Smile" will not run as scheduled tomorrow. Lynn has had a pretty difficult day that ended in an automobile accident. Her car was hit while she was driving with her young daughter. Both mom and child were not injured.

But, it was the kind of frightening experience that makes us want to retreat a bit and just melt into our families.

I know you will join me in wishing Lynn, Joe and their darling little girls well at this time. ...

Bon Voyage, Andy

by jim_ray
11/12/09, 7:03 pm

I hope everyone will sign this farewell card, sending Andy our best wishes for his grand adventure touring America.

I'm also excited to announce that Andy has agreed to keep us informed with the occasional Guest Column. And, I'm also hopeful he'll continue to be such a positive voice and presence in the Journal Room. He has made good friends and helped so many with his words of support and kindness. (Even though karen and greenrice sometimes got him to the line he never crossed it.)

We're eating our hearts out with envy Andy. But, then again, we'll have the best seats ...

Duck ... Here Come the Holidays!

by jim_ray
11/11/09, 12:20 pm

One of the very first posts we got after opening the Journal Room in January of this year was from David Gouldthorp (of "Senior Moments" fame). He got six comments to his post and we thought "gee, maybe this Journal Room thing might catch on".

It was a post about the perils of holiday eating. With Thanksgiving and Christmas fast approaching, it somehow seems appropriate to repost "Healthy Christmas ... Bah Humbug".

I've also asked David to write a special Thanksgiving piece with suggestions for avoiding some of the holiday pitalls. Early in that article he says this:

"Ok, ok, the truth ... ...

Comments should be back to the 2,000-character limit now instead of dumping comments longer than 512 characters.

Also, as before, if you go over the 2,000-character limit, the comment box should clue you in by not letting you type any more.

Let me know if you continue to have trouble with this. Thanks. ...

T-Shirt Awards: "I Resign"

by jim_ray
11/05/09, 11:31 am

Yes it's true. I can't do this anymore. It is just too hard. I can award winners just fine. My problem is passing by the fifty other people that have earned a free shirt to name just one winner; especially since I'm sitting not more than thirty feet from the inventory.

So, I've recruited some help to take the pressure off. Three of your fellow members have kindly agreed to jump into the pressure cooker and make the slections instead.

Drum roll please:

On Friday's posts/comments: Kel

On Saturday's Posts/comments: Blazimomma

On Sunday's Post/comments: Lmatava

Good luck. I look forward to funny, satirical, deep, ...

"Green in All Aspects": What to Do?

by jim_ray
11/05/09, 9:54 am

Thank you N Baker for your provocative "Green in All Aspects" post. Obviously, it touched a chord in me. I tried commenting at your post but timed out. And, since it is a subject I think of often (most every day just because I live in the same world all of you do) and becasue I own the microphone, I thougt I'd respond more broadly. I'd like to hear what others have to say about what you and I are thinking.

Nbaker,

Now you've gotten me started on a favorite mind-reel I never talk about here (or anywhere else).

Thanks for the ...

Adventures in Web Serving — Update

by mike
11/04/09, 9:39 pm

Well that was a fun day.

I don't even know how to begin to tell you all we've been through since about 6 a.m. this morning, but I'll just summarize by saying that we're finally on our new web server, a few days earlier than our much-delayed plan.

Whoopee?

Anyway, there are still problems, mainly this: Most of you can't log into the site.

As a temporary fix, you can try issuing a new password here:

Password reminder page

One caution with this, though: If you don't have access to the email address associated with your NutriMirror account, this will send your new passwords ...
