NutriMirror NewsDiet for a Small Planet … Reminder02/01/10, 12:40 pm There is a great thread taking place in the Book Club area for the classic book “Diet for a Small Planet”. This is our first Book of the Month discussion and we hope there are more to follow. It will last for the entire month of February. So, you still have time to read the book and join in. Or, just drop by to read the thread and see what there is to learn from this book that you can apply to your own personal health journey. Even if you haven’t read the book you can still ask questions? The ... NutriMirror NewsNew Journal Categories01/24/10, 10:19 pm So I'm sure you've all noticed the changes to the right-hand column. We've had lots of people posting in this new year, so I've added a few categories to make things a little better organized, and hopefully give you all a better chance to follow the conversations you're most interested in. Eventually we'll be implementing a full overhaul of how the journal community works, but for now I'm hoping that this helps to make things a little easier. A few things to note: 1) Click the arrows next to any of the category headings to hide the posts within that category. This should ... NutriMirror NewsStarbucks: Monitoring the Health Trend of a Divided Nation01/15/10, 10:12 am ![]() Like many Americans, I suspect, I start my work-week days at Starbuck’s. It’s there I organize my mind for what lies ahead in each of my days. I bring my coffee from home but say to myself “it’s OK; after all it’s brewed from a Starbuck coffee bean I bought at the store”. For the past several years I’ve bought my breakfast off the bottom Starbuck’s shelf, where ... NutriMirror NewsNM Book Club Discussion: “Diet for a Small Planet”01/14/10, 5:19 am Thanks to Cascade Lady for recognizing that the NM Book Club is an underused feature and for recommending that by featuring book titles for discussion we might bring it to life. We agree. Her suggestion for the first book to discuss is the classic “Diet for a Small Planet” by Francis Moore Lappe. If you have read this book, or wish to purchase and read it, the discussion will begin this MONDAY, JANUARY 18 and continue through the month of February, or until you or the subject is exhausted (whichever wears out first). The discussion will take place in the ... NutriMirror News“But, without a scale or a tape measure how do I measure my progress here at NM?”01/12/10, 2:21 pm Because weight loss is not our mission here, sometimes I wish we could gather all the scales in the world and just junk them. I get so flustered by the wasted energy and stress and looming failure that comes through the voices of people overly invested in what a silly scale says to them on any given day. I want to hug, spank, and (mostly) help our misdirected strugglers to see a different way forward. I mean we have a tool that should liberate us from the angst, not lead us to depression and frenzy. We are an antidote to ... NutriMirror NewsStill Struggling after All This Time?01/11/10, 9:32 am This is not a diet. You are not "BANNED" from eating anything here. Nor should this process be seen as punishment and deprivation. Until you replace your deprivation mindset (I'm giving up everything I love) with one that is open to finding the pleasures in balance (the journey can and does include treats from the past) this will continue to be a rocky road. Read those 8 Truths again (Featured Menu) and ask yourself, am I REALLY on board with those? Can I ever be? This is a place where, most often, people are saying you must EAT more, not ... NutriMirror NewsSite Suggestions01/10/10, 12:32 pm Hi everybody, I want to start by thanking you all for your support of NutriMirror. Every member makes this site a better place, and we love hearing your thoughts and helpful advice here in the journal community. As you know, the site is constantly growing and developing. We have big plans for things we'd like to do in the future, but we'd also like to hear any ideas you have. I'll make this a permanent post so that you'll always be able to come back to it any time you have a new thought. You'll find it under the more heading, just above NutriMirror NewsNew Photos01/09/10, 4:44 pm Okay, so I know you've all noticed the new photos. I know they're kind of tiny, but I hope they're helpful as far as letting you all know who the posts are from before you click. Let me know what you think. And let me know if the size of the link text changed unreasonably. Thanks. Update: For those of you who prefer not to see the photos, there's now a link at the bottom of the right-hand column, down below Hot Topics. Click "Hide user photos" and from then on you won't see the thumbnails in the column beside the ... NutriMirror NewsIn Defense of NM01/09/10, 11:40 am I can sympathize and relate to the time issues new members might face that have been long-time users of other sites. If I were to leave NM after using it everyday for five years I too would question the difficulty and unfriendly nature of the new site. I have become accustomed to the NM interfaces. I have all my personal foods built up (entered in new foods, etc) and have them parked in the short-cut areas that make it easy. No matter how good these other sites might actually be, I would not appreciate them and think them unfriendly because they ... |
